We are Jasper and Barbara. This website is out little window on the world and the countries we have visited. The unpretentious café where we had lunch, antique shops, a cute dog, beautifully tiled floors. Small things that are generally thought to be commonplace.

A mountainscape is where we find our inner peace and a city with brutalist architecture, book shops and a foodmarket is where we come alive again.

THAILAND MIGHT BE one of Asia’s most popular destinations. And rightly so. Mostly known for its amazing food, amazing beaches and stunning temples, it was a meditation retreat in Chiang Mai that drew us in. Apart from Bangkok’s Chinatown and Chiang Mai we did not visit much else, but it was enough to recharche and get our spirits back up. This feeling would become our reference the next part of our travels.

highlights

Thai style coffee/es yen

Asians like their coffees sweet. Once I got over that, it was the Thai-style coffees that stole my heart. Coffee and condensed milk? Delicious.

Bangkok's Chinatown

Chinatown is the ideal base for a further visit to Bangkok. It feels very authentic with lots of couleurs locales, delicious food stalls and its location near the water is very convenient.

Vipassana retreat at Wat Rampoeng

Out of spiritual curiosity, we ended up at Wat Ram Poeng Temple for a 10-day meditation retreat. The daily schedule, as you would expect, consisted of meditating, meditating, meditating and some eating.

Cycling through Bangkok

Those who don't have much time but still like to explore Bangkok can opt for a guided bike tour through narrow alleys and past colourful markets. Even if you do have some time on your hands, nothing beats cycling through a city, right?
