We are Jasper and Barbara and we created this website as a means to inspire anyone who likes to travel the same way we do. We prefer to travel low budget, staying in guesthouses and taking public transport.
While we love nature and mountains a city with a good antique market, book shops, brutalist architecture and local food is just as high on our list.
The images you see are our view on the places we have seen and the people we have met.

WE LEFT THE winter cold behind and took a little break from travelling to spend New Year’s with friends in Sri Lanka. It turned out beaches, a tuktuk bakery and good friendship was exactly what we needed. Climbing alongside the train racks to Ella Rock and Little Adam’s peak together were just a bonus. Also, we couldn’t let the chance to visit some of Geoffrey Bawa’s architectural gems slide.

highlights
Sigiriya's brutalist museum
This enormous mint green mazelike building by Chandana Ellepolaa floats above the river and has branches growing through it's roof.

Geoffrey Bawa's Lunuganga estate
Lunuganga was the country estate of Sri Lanka's most influential architect and protagonist of the 'tropical modernism' movement, Geoffrey Bawa. This slice of paradise is located only an hour from Colombo. A guided tour provides insight on how Bawa perfected the property to his liking. After his death the estate was turned into a hotel.

Geoffrey Bawa's house no. 11
This is the one sight we could not miss in Sri Lanka. To see Geoffrey Bawa's collection of furniture and art in his home where contemporary design and traditional Singalese elements are so in balance, felt like a very intimate look in the architect's mind.
If you can afford it and are willing to wait for over a year, you can stay at the residence in a suite or apartment that are off limits during the tour.

Hiriketiya beach
We are not surfers, but Hiriketiya really made us believe we were. We don't normally go for beach holidays, but the hip cafes, yoga classes and friendly people made for a laid-back atmosphere.
