We are Jasper and Barbara and we created this website as a means to inspire anyone who likes to travel the same way we do.  We prefer to travel low budget, staying in guesthouses and taking public transport.

While we love nature and mountains a city with a good antique market, book shops, brutalist architecture and local food is just as high on our list.

The images you see are our view on the places we have seen and the people we have met.

WHEN YOU THINK of India you might think of colourful gurus bathing in the Ganges, fairytale-like city palaces or crowded street markets where women in colourful sarees haggle over the price of their vegetables. India spans such a large area that it can’t be surprising that there is much more to it.

Ofcourse we did not want to miss out on that typical Indian experience, but we wanted to experience another side to this magical country by venturing up north.

Tours with Tenzen in Delhi

Our wonderful experience in Delhi was without a doubt thanks to the great tours we took with Tenzin and his team from Delhi By Bike. They showed us a side of the old city that we otherwise would have missed. We liked our morning tour so much that we also booked a food walk at night.

Nubra valley

Amid contested territory between India and Pakistan lies Nubra Valley. Nowhere did the ancient Silk Road feel more real than here. Imagining how caravans once passed here is so effortless. We visited the Diskit Monastery, but equally enjoyed the views across the valley.

Watching a movie at the Raj Mandir cinema

An absolute must when visiting Jaipur is going to see a movie in Raj Mandir. You will not only see the drama on screen, but you will also experience it. The audience is really engaged in the story. Most movies will be subtitled, and the best lassi in town is right around the corner!

Jawahar Kala Kendra

Analog to the city of Jaipur, this red sandstone oasis consists of nine squares, all of them referring to different cosmic elements with corresponding functions. The result is a playful labyrinth with courts, gardens and buildings that merge into eachother creating distinct architectural experiences. A big plus is the Indian Coffee House in one of the peaceful gardens.

food

Ladakh

Momos: dumplings that originated in Nepal and Tibet

Laphing: a spicy, thick cold noodle street food from Tibet

In general

Tikka massala: maybe the most famous Indian dish consisting of marinated chicken pieces and a flavourful creamy sauce. We loved the vegetarian option with paneer better

Lassi: perfect to cool off in summer, this yoghurt drink comes in different flavours both sweet and savoury

Gushtaba: lamb meatballs in a tangy yoghurt sauce

Kheema pav: spiced minced meat served with soft bread rolls

Pav bhaji: spiced mashed vegetables served with soft bread rolls

Jalebi: honey soaked fried batter. Crispy and sweet

Aloo tikki chaat: a delicious street food from crispy fried potatoes with a yoghurt and sweet and sour tamarind sauce

Dahl: this lentil curry is probably the most common food you will find

Chole bhature: spiced chickpea curry with a deep-fried puffy bread

Panipuri: deep fried hollow breads filled with potatoes, chickpeas and spices. The cold spiced water it is served with, might cause digestive issues when eaten from a street food stall.
