Black and White desert

I found Mohammed Khozam through Tripadvisor. His Bedouin family has years of experience arranging tours in the desert. An hour and a half later than planned, our sleeper train arrives at the Cairo train station. Mohammed arranged a driver to pick us up and we rush through the desert, to Mohammed’s home.
Together with a Vietnamese-American family - now friends - we drive through the Black Desert, to the spectacular Agabat Valley and we set up camp in the White desert. We meet a French family and their guide, and after a while a table loaded with food is ready for us.
The night is cold and short. At sunrise we get out of our tent to explore the chalk formations and for a wee with a view. Our Vietnamese-American friends have some instant pho on hand and we complete our breakfast of flatbread with eggs with a hot cup of pho.
After a long drive back to Cairo we go to the airport for our cheap flight home at three o'clock in the morning.
