Naryn Oblast
3 days
Because it is off-season and hitchhiking is now nearly impossible, we arranged a driver through CBT in Naryn. The drive to the Kok Kiya valley is absolutely stunning. We see semi-nomads moving their livestock and yurts to the summer pastures, herds of yaks, newborn foals, curious marmots.
We came for the lake and well, turns out the lake is not there at this time of year. But the hike there was still all but disapointing. As we walk through the golden grass more of the mountain valley opens up. A whistling marmot warns his brothers that a dog is approaching and one almost crashes into us.
