Ella

2 days

The hike up to Ella Rock is as scenic as promised. The trail leads us along the train tracks, through tea fields and up the mountainside. We reach the top sweating and satisfied, only to find a small hut charging us to enjoy the view.

Little Adam’s Peak is not the hardest climb of our trip. The flocks of other visitors prove this point. But we keep walking, following the ridge as it narrows, and with every step, the crowds thins out. By the time we reach the far end, we have the hills and the wide open sky to ourselves.

Ella is a small mountain town. The vibe is relaxed and there’s plenty of touristy options to eat your heart out. We learned quickly booking a hotel with a beautiful view comes at a price, when you have to climb the stairs after dinner.
