Going from the cold winter temperatures in Seoul to the sunny Hiriketiya beach did wonders to our moods. Although the presence of two friends could also have something to do with it. After some months of traveling it felt so good to see some familiar faces.
We are not the beach kind of people, but we really enjoy the atmosphere in this touristy surf village. Although we do stand out as pale people who always keep their longsleeves on.
Days slip by in a rhythm of (watching) surfing, fish curry breakfasts, and walks to nearby sights. We will miss our kind hosts at Sun Home Hiriketiya. As a paragon of Sri Lankan hospitality our hostess mended the hole in our backpack, gave me ayurvedic medicine when I was sick and shared her buddhist beliefs and life wisdom.
