Morondava
2 days
Morondava is a coastal city known for building ships by hand. For us it was also the ideal base to visit the Allées des Baobabs later. After almost 3 full days of traveling we treat ourselves to a nice hotel with nice gardens, a swimming pool and access to the beach. Well deserved, because bedsores were starting to develop from the car travel.
The brother of a hotel employee offers us the perfect excursion to the nearby fishing village of Betania. That is how everything goes here. Everyone has a brother or a cousin who can help us with something. We leave the car and continue by boat. In the mangroves, our guide almost perfectly interprets the chirping of a kingfisher. To our surprise, a blue shadow appears a few seconds later. It wouldn't be the last time that a local guide amazes us with his connection with nature.
We thought it would be a nice idea to visit the Allée des Baobabs at sunset. The nearby parking lot however, reveals that almost every tourist in the region had the same idea. Apart from having to dodge drones and self-proclaimed nature photographers with long lenses, we are still able to enjoy the view.
