Fergana Valley

2 days

On Sunday we go to the bustling Kumtepa bazar In Margilon. The vendors are enthusiastic, ask us to take their pictures and on some occasion even ask us to be their guests.

The Fergana Valley is known for the typical atlas silk production. Manufacturers are equipped to receive tourists and show them the production process of how the colourful silk is being made. We visit one of the family owned factories and get the full free tour, guided by some very friendly, very underaged brothers.

The owner of our guesthouse Sakura is kind enough to give us a free upgrade and the room we get is huge. When our time in Fargona is over he also offers his services to help us get to the border. A few phone calls later a cheap taxi is on its way. He even joins us to confirm the price with the taxi driver. Sometimes too good to be true is just true. Our last encounter in Uzbekistan is definitely the most memorable. Our driver keeps us entertained for the whole two-hour drive. From teaching Jasper Uzbek, to asking us how much money we and our parents make. He is astonished that after a relationship of 5 years we still do not have any children and force feeds Jasper some green almonds he picks along the way. They will help him to “shoot” better.
