Tashkent
4 days
Most people told us there was not much to see in Tashkent, but it was one of our favourite cities in Central Asia. It only takes us a little bit of planning and we are up on our feet to explore the city. On our way to the many Soviet-era buildings we walk from one park to the other and through the typical mehallas. The Friendship of the Nations Palace was our favourite sight. If we ever come back with a larger budget ‘Hotel Uzbekistan’ is where we will spend the night.
Getting around by metro in Tashkent is not only incredibly cheap, but the metrostations themselves are surprisingly beautiful. We take the metro to reach Chorsu Bazaar, one of the city’s busiest and most colourful markets. During our travels through Central Asia, we visited plenty of bazaars, but this one stands out. We combined the Caravanistan Old Taskent walk with the architectural highlights I had saved.
