Hydra

2 days

What I thought would be an amazing night in a double bed on a ferry was in reality a nauseating experience in a bunkbed with someone else’s socks on the carpeted floor. But we arrive safely back in Piraeus. A couple of hours later we take our connection to the island of Hydra. Luckily this ferry takes only an hour and a half.

Mules are stationed at the port. There are no wheeled vehicles allowed on Hydra so these guys are the main mode of transport on the island. We are forced to do everything on foot. Right up our alley. The main town feels somewhat posh but most of all very quaint and beautiful. We eat smoked aubergine dip, dolmades, our daily Greek salad and cool off by the turquoise water of Avlaki Beach.

On our second day we hike to Mount Eros. I quickly pick some figs off a tree to take with us as a snack. After the hike we find a shady place at Avlaki to read our book and after a last golden sunset, our last day in Hydra is already over.
