Yangshuo

Our first day in Guilin is misty and we spend the day inside watching Mulan, dubbed in Chinese, and eating a supply of biscuits from the corner store. Occasionally we see silhouettes of the karst mountains peaking through the clouds.
We hike to Yangshuo city and find the way to the top of the television tower. The city center itself is touristy and crowded, so we are happy we are staying closer to nature.
We rent bikes and cycle along the bamboo-lined Yulong River. Between the fields of rapeseed, small coffee bars cater to tourists. Silent rafts glide past us. At the Lijiang river cormorants are tied on traditional fishing boats to pose for pictures with costumed tourists.
