Adjara

2 days

After two uneventful days in Guria we arrived in Tsikhisdziri. The weather is hot and sticky. We chose a modest lodging and although we do not have our own bathroom as expected, our host is the friendliest old man who urges every young man in the neighbourhood that speaks English, to help us if we ever need anything. He introduces us to all his neighbours that we come across as he guides us through the winding roads to the beach.

The beach is made up of warm, smooth pebbles. I find some pieces of seaglass while I avoid the violent waves. There are few people on the beach. Behind the short stretch of beach a concrete reinforcement leads to train tracks. A train driver leans out of his window and looks at the Black Sea. He waves at me as I float in the water.

After a sticky day on the beach we find Shukura with an unexpected pool. The shower water at our guesthouse is murky so I am happily prepared to pay the entrance fee for a cooling dip and a decent shower.

The next dat we go to Batumi by bus. We walk in the city centre and end our day with grilled fish at the fish market. Our backpacks are waiting for us at the trainstation. A long sleepless night on the train to Tbilisi awaits.
